I Have Big Ugly Kankles
My knees, ankles and hips have been paining me for a couple of weeks. (A LOT!) I finally went to the doctor today. I didn't listen very well though. He doesn't think I have gout because it has lasted too long and isn't isolated to one joint. Instead he thinks I have some kind of arthritis which is brought on by being sick. Even though I haven't been sick, he thinks that's what I have. He put me on some steroids, took some blood, and made me pee in a cup. Not necessarily in that order. I have to go back in a couple of weeks.
In the mean time, I feel like crap. I've been climbing down my stairs backward for the last few days, and feeling really stupid. I've discovered that a walking stick feels a little more dignified, so I'm going with that. It hurts more than crawling down backwards, but feels a lot less stupid.
What I should do is move downstairs again for a while, but my couch is torn apart because I had to clean the cushions (Bailey) and haven't put them back together again yet because I feel like crap and don't feel like wrestling with stuffing cushions into covers. I also can't use the downstairs bathroom because the cushions that I feel too crappy to put together are blocking my downstairs bathroom. If I could just work up the ambition to put the cushions back together I could save myself a lot of trips crawling up and down the stair. Maybe I'll do that... tomorrow... or the next day. The pharmasist says the steroids might cause euphoria. Maybe I'll feel so great I'll want to put my couch back together.
Damn! My feet hurt.

2008
Well it's almost 2009, and I am not blogging much. I don't have a lot to say. There are a few interesting things to look back on though. Mostly they center on the Nies and Nephs.
Anjeanette and I are enjoying our last year of elementary school together. I'm not sure what I'll do with the rest of my life. She is going on to Middle School next year. She is enjoying being in Miss Wu's class this year. She has a new BFF, Rachel, who she spends most of her time with. She says she doesn't like any of the boys in fifth grade, they're all jerks, but she and a couple of boys share lunches and help each other in class. She says they're annoying.
Nut has taken up swimming as her sport of choice. That's not surprising since she's always loved the water. It's a little hard to keep up with in the winter, but the pool should reopen next month.

Brit is dancing. He just finished The Nut Cracker, and he was amazing as always. I think he wants a bigger part next year which would be great, although I love him in "Arabian" which is the dance he's done beautifully the last two years. I'll miss seeing that.
Beau graduated this year, and started college. Wow! He has become an amazing musician. He plays the violin, s
ings, and also plays a little guitar and piano. I've seen him perform a couple of times this year. He had a solo in the spring which was cool, because you can't really pick him out of the rest of the musicians, obviously. It was a treat to just hear his voice. He also sang in the school talent show last spring. That was pretty great too.
Brennan is getting ready to join the military. He has been talking to a recruiter and making plans. I'm proud of him, but very nervous. He is also very excited about snowboarding. He got a new board with his Christmas money, and can't wait to break it in. It will get a big Heavenly sticker on Saturday, for its maiden voyage.
Shayna isn't playing soccer for the high school this year because she wanted to stick with her job instead. That was disappointing for me because I don't have many sporting events left in my life. Shayna is playing some soccer with AYSO and an indoor league. She had plans to become a teacher, but now she's saying she wants to go into nursing. She seemed a little nervous when she told me that. I think she should be a doctor instead. Nursing doesn't seem at all interesting. They do all the icky stuff and the doctors make a lot more money. The nursing school is very active in recruiting in the community colleges here, and they let the kids get a head start during high school which is a big draw.
Madison is playing soccer, a lot! So I do get some sport viewing in. I went to a really COLD game a couple months ago. Yikes. I miss basketball. That was such a lovely and warm sport. Oh well. Soccer is
a lot of fun to watch, especially when the team is doing well. Madison's team was awesome this year. She also got straight "A's" on her report card for the first quarter, so it looks like I'll be buying a lap top for her birthday. Lucky for me the price is getting more reasonable. Next year it will be Anjeanette's turn, and she's shaping up to be a scholar too.
My dog Bailey is getting old. She threw out her back about a month ago. She is often expensive, and this year is no exception. After a pricey set of x-rays, and a bunch of pointing and explanations that made no sense to me (these should look like horse heads and only these two are the horse head shape, and this is a calcium bridge, and this calcium bridge is broken, and this is turned, and blah, blah...), the doctor said she couldn't climb stairs, jump on furniture or play with her rock, (gasp!). That was very difficult all the way around. After hiding the rock, gating the stairs, moving cushions and piling boxes and crap on the couches, Bailey and I moved downstairs for a month. I don't mind my couch so much, it's actually pretty comfortable for a nap, but I got tired of it after a couple weeks. I did a much better job following the doctor's orders than Bailey. My sister came by my house at lunch time one day and discovered her squeezing her big self into one of my tiny chairs. She had to climb over a bunch of boxes to get to the chair, but she managed it. Toward the end of our third week of light duty I came home from work to hear her running down the stairs, and turned the corner just in time to see her take a gazelle leap over the gate that was supposed to block her from the stairs. I forgot to make my couch/bed a few times, so naturally she spent those days on the couch. Finally we went to the doctor and got the OK to return things to normal. She was very happy to see her rock. I was very happy to return to my bed. I still have crap piled on my couches. I figured she doesn't need to go back to climbing on the furniture she wasn't supposed to be on to begin with. It looks a little bit ridiculous when company comes over, but I don't get much company.
That's about it for the year I think. Oh yah, I went to a bunch of quilt retreats with Mom and the aunts. That was great fun. The family quilt retreat was fun too, but I'm tired of blogging. Too bad for you. (whoever you may be??)

Robbed!!
Today's gripe: I was robbed.
I parked my car at Alf Sorenson at about 8:00, and sat inside the door while Anjeanette went swimming. I left my purse sitting on the floor in the front (stupid!!) because I was right inside the lobby, and I could see my car, but I wasn't looking at it. When I went out to my car, the window was busted, and my purse was gone. One of the kids who work at the community center was parked next to me and was already on the phone calling the police. I talked to the police, and they said that they wouldn't be able to send someone for an hour or so, but I could drive to the police station and give a statement there. So I drove to the police station, where I met a useless lady who said, "Well, who told you to come here? We don't have a desk officer to take your statement tonight. You have to come back in the morning after 8:00 a.m. That was thirty minutes I could and should have spent calling my credit card companies. Don't most crimes happen at night!? Shouldn't there be some police around the police station, and around town for that matter?
I spent all of the next day changing locks, and accounts, vacuuming up glass, making appointments and making phone calls. Scary part was that I had no money, and no ID. Luckily the bank was able to take care of things fairly quickly and get me some money out of my account. I got $100, and thought it would keep me going for a couple days. (HA!!) I spent that on the locksmith and had to go back to the bank and get $300 more to pay the guy who came to fix my window the next day and a $100 to get by. Then I went shopping to give myself some down time and spent all of that money on fabric. Borrowed another $100 from mom and spent that within two days. It's amazing to realize how much money I spend.
So here is my advice to everyone, and I hope no one ever needs it.
The Police : Call the police first, but don't waste time waiting for them or going to fill out a report. Call your credit card companies before you fill out a police report.
Social Security: The Social Security Office does not take fraud reports. They will send you a form SS5 to request a new Social Security Card, but that is all, and you'll only talk to the robot. They'll tell you to call 1-877-438-4338 or go online to www.consumer.gov/idtheft. They'll want a police report number, so do that first. Call your credit card companies first.
Credit Agencies: You can call any of the credit reporting agencies and they'll share the Fraud report with the others. I called Equifax 1-800-525-6285.
Insurance: If you are broken into in a business parking lot, make sure you file a loss report with the business, their insurance may cover some of your loss. They need your police report number too. My insurance broke the incident into two parts. The break-in was covered by my car insurance (the window replacement was less than my $250 deductible), and the loss of my purse was covered by my homeowner's insurance (again my loss was less than the $500 deductible.) By the way - Call your credit card companies first.
Bank: I couldn't go to the bank until the next morning. That stressed me out. I couldn't find a number to call to cancel my bank card either which was even more stressful. I called the customer service number I found on my bank statement, and fortunately they had a recording which gave me a phone number to call if my card had been lost or stolen. I called that number, and they were very helpful, and were able to cancel all 4 of my visas and mastercards. Then I only had to take care of a discover card and a department store card.
Good Luck

Well, I guess I've been discovered, so maybe I'll have to blog regularly and with a little effort at eloquence. I hope spelling doesn't count.
School is out!!!!!!!!!
My class this year has been wonderful, and I'll miss them, but not real soon. Next year's class looks to be a challenge, but I'm not ready to think about that.
School's out !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think maybe I'll vacuum my house.

Beau Baby Graduates

My nephew graduated today. He was very hansom. They made him shave. He looks like a baby without his beard. Afterward his mama followed him around for an hour taking pictures. Well, we all followed him around for an hour, but his mom was the only one with a camera. (That's why this post doesn't have a pic from graduation.) I also found a couple of former students graduating. One of them didn't remember me at all, and couldn't even remember that he had gone to school at Donner Springs. The other is a buddy of Beau's who graduated with an "advanced" diploma (Beau did too by the way). Any way, Jesse and his brother were two of my special ed students, and Jesse was in my class in third grade. When I taught him he could barely read, and couldn't put a complete sentence together to save his life, verbally or in writing. He has come a long way. Actually, he and Beau are a lot alike in that regard. I'm very proud of both of them!
Now I'd like to slap around my "friend" who thinks her life would be over if her child were to qualify for Special Ed.

Busy Busy Busy
I need to file my taxes. I need to clean my house. I need to get ready to go on vacation. I need to deliver a quilt. I need to wash clothes. I need to grade papers. I need to compile data. I'm overwhelmed, so I'm not doing anything. I love spring because I love the change in weather, but spring is very stressful. The Pressure is building..........
